Fitri Setyaningsih
Like many of her peers, Fitri graduated from one of the national arts academies ( then, the so- called STSI, now the Institute of the Arts in Indonesia), the one in Surakarta. She firstly trained in javanese dances but later develops a body of eclectic work that critically questions the body in contemporary dance. She now moves seamlessly between dance, visual and performance arts. And is bold in stating that "dance is not only an event of movement, but dance moving towards becoming a medial event with body remains at its central axis". With this idea in mind, Fitri integrates daily life movement and objects and has been creating works since 2000. she has been awarded as one of the influential artists in Indonesia by TEMPO weekly news magazine in 2011. She is also the recipient of Empowering Women Artists Commission from Kelola foundation which enabled her to create two consecutive years. Her latest, Bintang Hening ( A Tranquil Star) touring europe in fall 2014.
